Portrait of William Coxe (1748-1828) mb-height 247 He disapproves of the sceneSeated portrait of Coxe in a fur trimmed robe holding a small book in his left hand, the right arm leaning on a table upon which rests a larger book and a loose paper marked 'Map of Europe'. Inscribed: 'C. Grignion Pinxt. Wm. Pether Fecit. Wm. Coxe, A. M. F. R. S. Fellow of King's Coll. Cambridge, born March 18. 1746.' Inscribed in pencil lower left '1782'. William Coxe was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1782. Original: mezzotint. ca. 1784
