Wonderful American Folk Art Eagle Painting on French Wooden Box Lid, Presumed Civil War Era ebony cranes 6 5/8" longThe paper label on the underside of this antique box lid dates it pre 1876, when Rue du Rampart in Paris ceased to exist, replaced by l'Avenue du l'Opera. While I can't say for certain that the painting dates to the same period, I am pretty confident it does, and it is very much in the manner of eagles being drawn, painted and carved during and just after the Civil War. 13 bright yellow stars for the 13 colonies surrounding this wonderful big eagle,
