The National Flag of Canada consists of two red side vertical fields with a white square at its centre, in the middle of which is a stylized red 11 point maple leaf. Designed by George Stanley, the Canadian Flag is relatively young making its first official appearance on February 15, 1965. Earlier Flags were reminiscent of British and French symbolism, but the new design was distinctly and boldly Canadian.
