Impossibly Fine, Beautiful Condition Antique Mi'kmaq Curlicue Basketry Pin Cushion slab plate with woman with the white beading evincingI have had just a couple of antique Mi'kmaq basketry pieces executed in this manner both of those with the basketry covering wooden barrels, and those, like this, completely amazing me for the fineness of the work. This is just over six inches wide, meaning that those tiny twists of the ash splint sometimes called "porcupine curls" are very very tiny indeed. And here with some of the splints dyed red and green, bringing the patterns of the weaving
